Training Goals

This course is designed to help you master HemoVision from both a theoretical and practical perspective. By the end of the training, you will be able to:
Understand and clearly explain the scientific principles behind HemoVision’s analytical methods
Document and photograph scenes correctly to ensure reliable downstream analysis
Set up, organize, and manage HemoVision projects efficiently
Use the full range of tools to analyze individual bloodstains and complex bloodstain patterns
Interpret outputs with confidence and understand the capabilities and limitations of each method
Create clear, compelling visualizations suitable for reporting and courtroom presentation
Recognize and avoid common pitfalls to ensure consistent, high-quality results

Detailed Information

This training course is designed to help you and your team get fully up to speed with HemoVision and make the most of its capabilities. The goal is to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to confidently document, analyze, and visualize bloodstain patterns using HemoVision.

Course Content

The course begins with the essentials of scene documentation, photography, and pattern capture, followed by a clear introduction to the theoretical principles behind HemoVision’s analytical methods. Participants then move into hands-on training, working through curated exercises that cover the full workflow and advanced features. Once proficient, the session shifts to visualization, showing users how to generate clear, compelling outputs and reports suitable for court.

Hands-On Approach

The training is highly practical. All participants receive temporary access to the HemoVision software for the duration of the course, along with a set of curated exercise files that reflect real-world crime scene conditions. These materials ensure that participants can practice with realistic data and build operational proficiency.

Modality

This is a live, instructor-led online training course designed for teams. A qualified instructor guides participants through both the theoretical content and practical exercises. The training is hosted on the Zoom* platform. All participants receive access to the session recording for two weeks after the course concludes.

Evaluation

At the end of the course, participants receive a take-home exercise that they can complete at their own pace. This assignment reinforces the concepts covered during the training and allows participants to demonstrate hands-on competence. Submitted exercises are reviewed and evaluated, after which each participant receives a certificate of completion.

Duration

The standard training course runs for approximately 5 hours. We can tailor both the content and the duration to meet the needs, experience level, and workflow of your team.

Pricing

The training course is priced at €250 per seat, with a minimum of 4 seats required to schedule a session.
*Other video conferencing platforms can be used upon request (note: session recordings may not be available on alternative platforms).

    Course Instructor

    PHILIP JORIS (PhD)

Philip brings over a decade of expertise at the intersection of forensic science and advanced image computing. As co-founder of Forentrics and one of the architects of HemoVision, he has played a central role in developing the software’s analytical routines for bloodstain pattern analysis. Philip regularly participates in IABPA meetings to refine methods and gather practitioner feedback. He completed the Basic BPA Certification at Loci Forensics (Netherlands), giving him both the theoretical foundation and practical understanding of BPA workflows. This combined background in research, practical BPA workflows, and software development makes him uniquely qualified to teach this course.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Still have questions?
    CONTACT US >
Is this a bloodstain pattern analysis (BPA) course?
No. This is not a BPA certification course. It provides the theoretical background necessary to understand HemoVision’s methods, but the focus is on using the software effectively within established BPA workflows.
Do I need to purchase HemoVision to attend the course?
No. All participants receive complimentary access to HemoVision for two weeks. This ensures you can complete the hands-on exercises and the take-home assignment at your own pace without requiring a license.
    Who is this training for?
This training is intended for bloodstain pattern analysts, crime scene investigators, forensic laboratory personnel, and anyone who works with HemoVision in their investigative workflow. Whether you document scenes on-site or perform off-scene analysis, this course will benefit you.
Do I need prior experience with HemoVision?
No prior experience is required. The course starts from the fundamentals—scene documentation, project setup, and basic workflows—before moving into advanced analysis and visualization.
Do I need prior BPA experience?
Basic familiarity with bloodstain pattern analysis is helpful, but not mandatory. The course provides enough theoretical context to understand HemoVision’s tools and outputs.
Is the training live or pre-recorded?
The course is delivered live by an instructor. Participants can ask questions, share screens, and interact throughout the session. A recording is made available for two weeks after the training.
    What equipment do I need?
Participants need a computer capable of running HemoVision (Windows), a stable internet connection, and the ability to join a Zoom session.
    Do you offer in-person training?
We currently provide training online. In-person sessions may be arranged upon request depending on location. Please reach out to us for further information.
